Book No Gentle Giant: A Small Town Romance Review :

Boring. And I honestly can't remember why I liked this series in the first place based on the latest books in it, unless the writing has completely changed. I'm sick of the flowery, trying-too-hard-to-be-poetic writing style. I don't know if this is a newer way this author is writing, or if my standards were just that much lower when I read the first books in the series🤔 so much of it is analogies and metaphors and the MC's droning internal thoughts that literally do nothing for the story. It's just too cringey and cheesy for me.And the heroine is soooo weak too. She knows her dad was into some sketchy stuff when he was alive and rumors about him also affect her, and she hates that. So what does she do? Not only does she tell the hero about what the rumors are, in like their first real conversation, but it was so out of the blue, and honestly seemed attention seeking, that it literally made no sense. Also, her dad's previous boss's daughter comes around the heroine taking her money all the time, and what does the heroine do? She literally gives her all her money, lets them destroy her shop, and doesn't tell anyone in that town either. She even mentions she has no clue if her dad even has any debt and that they're probably just taking money out of her for basically no reason, and STILL doesn't do anything about it, even after complaining she needs money. Her town is filled with ex-navys, marines, firefighters, cops, etc... People she talks to on a daily basis, and are even in her family. And instead of talking to them of her being targeted, attacked, and stolen from, the first person she tells is the hero who she literally hardly knows and is new to the town. I'm sick of heroines just constantly complaining about their lives or them being targeted, and not doing anything about it, but as soon as the hero shows up, they're all of a sudden tell-all, as if they're unable to lie or something, even though they've been doing just that for years now. It just doesn't make sense, and makes the heroine seem so weak and just plain stupid for her not to do anything, or even stand up for herself. Ugh.So, overall, a disappointing book for Felicity, and this may be my last book by this author if this is how she's gonna continue to write.Safety (up to 30%)Hero has been celibate for yearsHero was (unhappily) married then divorced (ex is dead)Hero has a kidNo real details on the heroine except there were rumors about herNo cheatingNo ow/om drama
This book felt like it took me for ever to finish. Not fully sure as to what to page count is nor do I really care. The plot seemed like it would be awesome but sadly, the author totally screwed up the story. Way too much inner dialogue with both the H and the h. The h had a father who was into some pretty nasty stuff, which the h let fall into her room own shoulders. Even letting it get so far as giving the daughter of the bad guy, every dollar she made and letting the bad guys trash her business. But never tried to contact any law enforcement for help. The woe is me, I had a hard life and everything is out to get me. That mentality is fully enforce with the h. The H? He is a single dad, newish to the area. Supposedly a former Navy Seal. He did not come across as such to me.I am not even sure as to where the author is trying to put this small town. It's like the author took small bits of Montana state history and meshed it all up into a B movie wannabe western. Is Missoula North or South of this small town? Is it East or West of Missoula? I did not enjoy how this author portrayed my home state.
